Summary
Airbnb is seeking a highly qualified senior attorney with deep experience in commercial dispute resolution to lead our growing litigation group. The Deputy General Counsel, Litigation will report to Airbnb’s General Counsel in San Francisco, and will be Airbnb’s lead attorney responsible for litigation and regulatory matters regarding proposed regulations of Airbnb’s business around the globe. This is a leadership position that will also require you to get “hands on” in managing complex litigation and regulatory matters, and work with “in country” attorneys in Airbnb’s offices globally.

Background should demonstrate an attention to detail and experience in a role involving access to highly sensitive and confidential information. * Be responsible for a diverse range of litigation and pre-litigation matters in a wide range of practice areas and in numerous jurisdictions across the country and around the world. * Provide advice and counsel to various internal clients to proactively address and resolve potential disputes while providing risk management advice to business clients while supporting business objectives. * Provide advice and counsel to Customer Experience and Trust and Safety Teams and work closely with other attorneys, compliance personnel and public policy experts to help solve complex problems. * Review and analyze legal risks for Airbnb nationally and internationally, including on development of products and services. * Collaborate with outside counsel to efficiently resolve disputes and manage all aspects of outside counsel relationships, including staffing, litigation strategy, budgets, work product, discovery and developing initiatives for reducing outside counsel spend. * Responsibility for, and manage of, a team of lawyers and paralegals engaged in risk management work, litigation and third party subpoena compliance. * Devise processes and procedures to help support a rapidly-growing, global business.
Ideal Candidate
* Licensed attorney with 20+ years of experience in an in-house legal department or a major law firm handling complex commercial litigation, including class action litigation, alternative dispute resolution and pre-litigation disputes. At least 10 years of managing attorneys and paralegals is preferred. * Substantial and recent in-house law practice experience. * Demonstrated record for success strategizing, handling and managing complex commercial disputes to successful resolution. * Broad base of substantive law relating to high technology companies. * Familiarity with e-discovery issues, including document retention policies and procedures, third party subpoena compliance and law enforcement requests for user information and corporate records. * Creative, entrepreneurial, quick thinking, pragmatic business oriented advice and ability to properly balance risks and business reward; ability to craft legal solutions in novel ways is essential. * Highly motivated, efficient, and organized; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team and working independently * Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to advocate for a position while maintaining open-minded approach. * J.D. from an accredited law school, with strong academic record. * Interest in expanding scope of your practice to diverse areas of law as legal team grows and matures. * Passion for travel, home sharing and deep appreciation for Airbnb community. * Good sense of humor, disdain for drama and desire to get things done.
