Summary
This is a hands on management position that will require the candidate to be uniquely qualified in hands-on technical administration while at the same time managing a small staff of engineers.The Manager of Linux and Storage holds responsibility for: - Providing infrastructure engineering services in support of HDMS' business and financial objectives through the secure and recoverable delivery of high quality, low cost, responsive computing services. - Being accountable for the effective administration, project management and delivery of high quality products and services that meet Enterprise Utility customer objectives.
Responsibilities
- Accountable and responsible for adherence to Problem and Change Management processes including escalation procedures for critical problems and business continuity activities - Monitor utility and performance of systems, and lead capacity planning for infrastructure to satisfy business resource, customer, and service requirements - Set Problem and Change Management goals that provide for continuous quality improvement and increased availability - Communicates expectations for employee performance by setting goals and planning how to achieve them - Select, develop and evaluate staff. Determine appropriate staffing levels. Realign organizational structure when appropriate - Ensure appropriate and timely training. Research training opportunities and establish training plans - Provide leadership/direction for major projects - Make decisions and is accountable for overall project success - Communicate project plans and provide overall direction and department goals for employees
Ideal Candidate
- 10+ years of Unix/Linux administration, design and architecture - Deep experience in multi petabyte SAN architecture, engineering and administration. - Advanced MYSQL experience, including MYSQL clusters. - Advanced Scripting skills using Perl, Bash etc.. - Familiarity with Veritas/Symantec Clustering and/or Red Hat Cluster Suite - SSL Configuration and Certificate Creation and Management - Understanding the Unix security model - Identify CPU/Memory/Disk-intensive processes and adjusting process CPU and I/O priority. - Manage local and remote SAN/NFS/CIFS storage, including managing storage partitions, volume groups, and physical and logical volumes. - Understand system authentication methods, and configuring a server to authenticate against Microsoft Active Directory to allow centralized password management. - Experience in a highly regulated and audited environment - Experience with the ETL process from end to end. - Ability to architect and configure standard services of Apache, Tomcat Bind, FTP, NFS, Samba, Postfix, SSH, MySQL, Postgresql. Detailed knowledge of configuration options of each of these services and how to test these services. **Education:** The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
