Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Shipping, Receiving, Dry Whse and Cycle Count responsibilities for three shifts. Responsibilities include oversight of finished goods distribution, maintaining a direct link to purchasing, inventory management and manufacturing group. Responsible for the effective utilization of employees, employee training, safety, housekeeping, policy administration, discipline, employee relations, cost control and problem solving.
Responsibilities
**Essential Job Functions** * Supervises all aforementioned warehouse employees including supervisors, management trainees and hourly employees. * Must be an exceptional problem solver who can anticipate the variables and chain reactions since perishable materials are always involved. * Work closely with corporate on managing finished goods inventory levels controlling inventory dollars. * Observes supervisor performance. Trains supervisors in proper procedures, standards, policies, handling of employees, equipment, and product handling procedures. * Communicate and provide leadership working closely with entire senior management team, i.e., Plant Manager, production managers, Plant Controller. * Monitor and work on continuous improvements on departmental budget. * Assist in developing, mentoring and leading the management team as it relates to the company expectations of the supply chain process. * Is responsible for managing the finished goods inventory levels generated by the production facilities. * Coordinates between purchasing, inventory management and production planning. * Works closely with distribution groups both internally and externally. * Travel when required to provide technical expertise. * Recommends and makes changes to shipping and receiving schedules for the purpose of cost control, capacity utilization or mfg. necessity. Assures that all concerned are informed of changes. * Observes daily operations and alerts appropriate supervisor of problems or opportunities. * Explores ways to reduce the manpower and effort needed to handle products without sacrificing quality or safety. * Researches and proposes equipment and employee utilization for cost effectiveness. Presents proposal to Plant Manager. * Coordinates with support departments for downtime solutions or efficiency improvements. * Reviews all performance reviews for accuracy, fairness and consistency prior to being given to employees. * Reviews and approves all employee pay increases prior to employees being informed to assure policy compliance. * Signs all levels of discipline given out in the department prior to being given to an employee. Informs Human Resources and Plant Manager of needed discipline. * Recommends discipline when observed or needed. * Makes sure all discipline is carried out quickly, fairly, and consistently within the department. * Inspects areas for safety hazards and observes employees for safe work habits. * Fills out and/or reviews accident investigation reports and directs supervisor to correct problems. Communicates and follows up to meet safety goals. * Be on call to answer logistical questions on the off shifts. * Monitor the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of the movement and storage of goods. * Develop business controls, analysis, and new solutions. * Works with USDA Inspectors and other government agencies as it relates to the plant operation. * Responsible for daily compliance to all TQC regulations. Directs supervisors in areas of concern. * Interviews prospective hourly and salary employees and recommends new hires. * Responsible for the training of supervisors and employees through supervisors. Assures training schedule is followed. * Works with others on combined goals. * Works directly with logistics, off-site warehousing, carriers and other facilities to optimize shipping efficiency. * Works with Quality, NPD and Cust. Service to provide support in inventory management with samples, test product, returns, HOLD product and any other inventory related issue. **Additional Responsibilities** * CHEP Administrator * Conducts and attends meetings and keeps informed of changes in policy, procedures, goals or problems. * Communicates and enforces company policies, dress code, work rules and performance standards. * Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to other department managers when requested. * Participates in the formulation of policies. * Prepares manufacturing reports used in monitoring the operation for continuous production and planning guidance. * Motivates other team members.
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** * Ability to select, train and manage salaried personnel. * Ability to communicate and work effectively with other departments. * Ability to plan a myriad of activities. * A complete set of computer skills that include Microsoft software and mainframe MRP systems. * Must have good communication skills (written/verbal) and the talent to deal with difficult individuals during problem resolution. * Must have good typing skills. * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Must be able to follow and comprehend written and verbal instructions. * Must be decisive and display excellent problem solving and analytical skills. **Education and Experience** * BS/BA Degree required in Logistics, Management, Supply Chain, Business or related field. * Minimum of five (5) years planning/management experience. * Must be willing to take intelligence and/or management skills test. * Inventory Management or Warehouse Management experience preferred
