Summary

Accion seeks a dynamic communications professional who will develop and implement a global media and influencer engagement strategy. The ideal candidate is experienced at driving earned social media and traditional media, with a focus on audiences and topics relevant to financial inclusion, fintech, and/or impact investing. This position will report directly to Accion's Senior Vice President of Communications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee media relations and launches, in alignment with overall communications strategy and in coordination with global and US network colleagues.
  • Cultivate and inform a dedicated database of reporters and bloggers who follow topics relevant to fintech, financial inclusion, impact investing, and international-development.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of media-facing materials including press releases, opinion pieces, statements, media advisories, media fact sheets, etc.
  • Act as a resource for subject matter experts; coordinate cross-team efforts to foster substantive media coverage and brand awareness of Accion priorities.
  • Work across teams, especially Center for Financial Inclusion and Venture Lab, to help craft online and media launches around research and learnings.
  • Proactively lead efforts to garner positive media coverage in new and creative ways; effectively curtail negative press; and manage overall reputation, image and brand of Accion across our affiliates.
  • Provide strategic counsel and advice on messaging, earned social media tactics, and timing as enterprise-wide initiatives are pursued.
  • Set KPIs and work plan targets for growing our reach and engagement through earned media and social media activities.
  • Provide counsel, guidance, training and/or strategies to management on matters relating to external reputation and corporate image.
  • Oversee media strategies and provide support to internal clients across departments.
Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media and media relations.
  • At least 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and oral communications: writing, editing and producing press releases, opinion pieces, speeches, presentations, etc.
  • Experience working with journalists across various media channels: print, digital, broadcast.
  • Experience managing corporate communications activities, preferably in financial inclusion, fintech, or a related sector.
  • Experience comprehending complex information and translating it into easily understandable terms appropriate for news media and a specialized public audience.
  • Demonstrated skills preparing senior leadership to interact successfully with media during press conferences, editorial board sessions, panel interviews or one-on-one interviews.
