About.com was founded in 1997 by Scott Kurnit as the Mining Company. The original goal of the company was to have a site that covered 1,800 topic areas, but after five years of operation the number was reduced to 700.

In 1999, during the internet bubble, the company changed its name to About.com.

Primedia bought the company in 2000 for $690 million.

Summary

As a Manager, Programmatic Sales for About.com you will be instrumental in growing the programmatic technology at About.com. You will use your deep analytical and technical skills to define innovative solutions to complex business problems. Responsibilities
  • Generate strategic relationships with new demand sources and grow current business.
  • Regularly interact with buyers in order to provide a better understanding of the unique value of the About.com products and inventory, and how these can be aligned with current and future campaigns.
  • Understand the evolving marketplace and provide internal strategic recommendations related to the evolution of About.com’s programmatic and audience products.
  • Support training of direct sales team to help them stay abreast of changes in a quickly evolving marketplace.
Ideal Candidate
  • Three to five years of experience in business development, programmatic, or sales for a digital publisher
  • Understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem and the programmatic marketplace
  • Established agency and buyer relationships
  • Understanding of all variations of programmatic publisher products, DSP technology and media buying
  • BS degree or higher
