About 10X Genomics
Sequencing technology fueled advances in applications such as SNP identification and molecular quantitation at a massive rate and scale, but a significant amount of critical genetic information remains inaccessible.
Summary
10x is looking for an outstanding individual to join its Computational Biology group. This person will primarily: (1) work with the product development team to assess early developed modules and integrated prototypes and (2) work with 10x’s first set of collaborators and customers, serving as a vital bridge between these customers and the development team. The main responsibilities will include: (1) working w/ early collaborators to explore new applications of the system, (2) prototyping new computational methodologies to support these novel uses, (3) developing custom analyses to support customer applications and (4) analyzing the performance of the core components of the 10x technology for feedback into the development team. This position is a unique opportunity to work on an exciting and novel form of NGS data that enables a wide array of previously unachievable applications. The right candidate must have strong programming skills, a solid background in statistics, and a keen interest in biology and working with real-world data. Strong interpersonal skills, a burning desire to understand customer needs and mechanisms behind instrument performance, and the ability to communicate results clearly are essential. This position will interact closely with colleagues in chemistry, biochemistry, microfluidics and software.
Responsibilities
* Work with customers to understand their analysis needs * Analyze the performance of 10x algorithms on customer data * Prototype novel algorithms to support new application areas * Work with the Product Development team to propose experiments and analyze data, then prioritize technology improvements * Work with the algorithms team to prioritize algorithm improvements and build prototypes into software products
Ideal Candidate
* PhD in computational biology, systems biology or related field * Knowledge of a wide variety of applications of NGS data * Hands-on experience with structural variant calling and/or RNA-Seq data is ideal * Strong programming ability in Python * A solid background in statistical methods along with deep statistical intuition * An almost obsessional need to make sure customers are satisfied * Hands on experience with NGS data tools (e.g. bwa, samtools, GATK, cufflinks) * A deep intuition for the processes utilized by current NGS technologies * Highly independent and creative problem solver * Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
